1. Question your self – the big “WHY?” - Before starting off and spending heaps of money on eBooks, software, videos and other programs you must ask yourself one question – “Why?”. Why are you sitting where you are reading this article or surfing the Internet for the best business opportunity there is to date? What is it that you are unhappy about and want to change in your life? What is it that you want in life? Sit down and try to visualise what it is in life you are trying to pursue? Without a vision and a will in life anything you attempt will be pointless. Anything you try will fail. Your first step to a successful home business lies in the answers to those above questions. Like a chemistry experiment – Without an aim or objective, there is no conclusion. Once your goal is clear and you are determined to achieve it then and only then will you have the strength to continue on.

2. Designate a “home office” area - One important aspect you must consider is that your home based business is essentially still a business and requires some effort on your behalf. Money is not going to come knocking on your door no matter what anyone (or any system) tells you. Setting up a proper home business office may be the key to your success. Your office must contain all the necessities of an office including printer, scanners, phone etc and should be separated from your “home”. This will allow you to concentrate on your “work” and keep distractions to a minimum.

3. Focus and Commitment - According to statistics many internet home based entrepreneurs fail and one of the main causes behind this is the lack of focus and commitment. You must learn to separate work from play. You must setup a proper schedule including working hours and not allow yourself to become distracted by external factors. You must have a system in place. Without a system in place there will be no productivity and everything will become a disaster and failure will be seen in the horizon.

4. Research, Learn and Expand - The world is changing everyday in more ways than one. The Internet can reflect these changes and you must keep up with the times in order to take your home business to a new level. What is the latest niche? What is the newest product? You must continue to explore and research every day. You must not stop at just one thing that works because what works today may not work tomorrow. Diversify your ideas and your knowledge to create multiple streams of income. That is your goal isn’t it?

5. Take the Risk - Another important question you must ask yourself is “How far are you willing to go to achieve your goals?” The road to success or failure lies within you because it is only you that can take control of the situation. We all have what we call our “comfort zone” – lots of people are quite happy to return to their current 9-5 job day in day out, but why? Such people come home complaining every night about the awful, dragging day they just had yet do nothing to pull themselves out of that hole. The answer is because they are comfortable with their job, comfortable with knowing they will earn another couple of hundred dollars by the end of the day, comfortable with the routine and knowing what the road looks like ahead of them. To kick of your internet home business you must challenge yourself. Get out of your comfort zone and take the risk – make it happen. Just remember the investment and risk involved with your online home business is much smaller when compared to any offline ventures and if you don’t try – you will never know.

6. Patience and Persistence - Being patient and persistent is another important variable to success. Not everything you try will reap in rewards. Do not let such situations deter you from achieving your goals. Aim high – shoot high and wait. Many successful entrepreneurs didn’t make their first dollar for months. If one system or idea doesn’t work then get over it and try another. Learn from previous mistakes. Don’t lose faith by believing those “get rich” schemes, because in reality if it were that easy we wouldn’t have any poor people.

7. The Internet - The last stepping stone you need to master for your home business lies in the medium you work in – the Internet. It is very important for you to build yourself support. Network with others both online and offline, both on a social level and a professional level. Invite friends over, keep in touch with the real world yet you must also keep contact with those you meet in cyberspace. Join forums, read blogs and articles and learn from other peoples experiences. Maximise your contacts.

Remember you are the master of your own destiny. A home-based entrepreneur works for realistic goals that they want to achieve. No home business is an overnight success. Take the risk, make the choice, have a schedule, abide by a system and wait – the rewards will come.
